1964 Galaxie 500 XL 'Z' Code 390cid, built to 330 horsepower specs, gorgeous Rangoon Red, Red interior, frame off restoration, terrific underchassis and frame, famous XL bucket seated interior that was one of Ford's high design accomplishments, full console, period mounted tachometer, dated 4-speed, power steering, working air conditioning, full chrome redone with terrific bumpers, rear trunk mounted antenna, fender skirts, 'Carlite' glass in all 7 windows except tinted new windshield, fresh braking system just finished, top mechanicals, correct 'XL' large hubcaps, this famous fastback was originally built by Ford for the mid-year introduction in 1963 to compete in the Daytona 500 with this smooth and beautiful wonderful body style, this design won 1-2-3 in the Daytona 500 and became an instant collectable, this car is fully restored with about 7900 miles with the final work completed for Spring 2008, all body panels and floors are believed original, great attention is paid to top mechanical performance, this fantastic 390cid engine is freshly rebuilt with the solid lifter 330 horsepower rating, excellent compression with a dry reading of 173 to 180 lbs across(SEE LINK), , the horsepower delivered from the factory was in actuality higher than that number than quoted according to information in the era, coupled to the enormous torque, this Galaxie 500 Xl is an original 'Z' code and thusly rebuilt as a 'P' code, this big block combination 4v Holley carberator mounted on a factory intake is a jewel to drive, the chrome air cleaner itself even has the Ford Hi-Po element unit just installed, has the very rare 330 hp and 406cid proper, large Ford exhaust manifolds, these connect to the dual aluminized exhaust system with mellow mufflers, the 4-speed transmission has shifter mounted in the long XL console, the transmission is a C4 unit (SEE LINK) and the rear end has a proper 3G28 Stamping, really gorgeous car with top interior, radio, heater and clock are all in the car, the period tachometer mounted on the steering column looks and works great, the air conditioning system is uprated to 134a for excellent cooling, this is an original Rangoon Red color, see the photo of the original VIN# 4A68Z141020 on the proper place at the passenger top firewall, has the Ford stampings there, has the Ford stampings on the rear trunk drip rails, the original underchassis is painted black, extremely clean, wonderful red interior, terrific chrome, top driven show, very seldom do you see such a nice car cosmetically as well as fantastic mechanical condition, the Rangoon Red color (J) paint and body are extremely nice, the lines are extremely straight, fantastic quarters, this is what would be called a really, really nice #2 car, all the chrome bumpers are like new, all the stainless trim around the car is redone with proper seals, the glass is excellent, very unusual to have the Carlite markings on each of the 3 side glasses and the rear large glass, only the front tinted windshield appears to have been replaced, the windshield has all new rubber seals, the windows roll up and down as they should, just tested, the rebuilt original Thunderbird 390cid engine has been built to better than stock specifications, VIN#4A68Z141020 has the engine initially rated at 300 horsepower at 10.1:1 compression, this now has the uprated 330 horsepower rating with the solid lifters, these lifters are just set for an great sound and enormous torque, this engine had so much power it was not available with the Fordomatic transmission, has a Holley 4v 1850-2, 2553 carberator, to make sure the engine performs well, there is a hidden PerTronix system installed, we can not confirm if this is the original block, since the date code is 2.b.21, could be an earlier block casting, fully restored with all decals also goes with the package, fresh belts and hoses and clamps, RARE correct and just painted proper big block exhaust manifolds, wonderful engine detail, the brakes were done in the start of the 7800 mile restoration, just checked again for Spring 2008 to make sure they work great, fresh brake cylinders, new shoes, drums turned again to yield terrific stopping power (SEE LINK), excellent master cylinder, the steering box tag says HCA -BL, drives and tracks well, the suspension is terrific, upper and lower ball joints just checked, even the power steering control value is new with fresh rubber boot, fresh shocks, the floors are painted Red body color and appear to be original from all signs, the black frame is nicely detailed, this area is fresh and cleaned in Spring 2008 (SEE LINK) note that important areas like the black seals between the taillight bezels are as factory and not painted over, the same goes for the stripping around the window, a great driven show car, very unusual to have such fine history, note that before this car came from Georgia originally SEE LINK FOR DATA TAG and then to a Florida collector, was found at a major Ford show and then came back to Atlanta, the reason for being now available is the last owner used these monies for a donation to his church, the final work by Fraser Dante that included the check of the clutch to make sure this car works extremely well, the proper steel wheels have the correct Ford XL valuable large chrome hubcaps, these are mounted on steel wheels with Michelin 'X' radial 215/25/14 narrow bank whitewall tires, correct C4 4-speed transmission (SEE LINK FOR #S), shifter is a Hurst unit with the white ball shift handle, this unit is one that works perfectly, the trunk is also in the same condition, it is detailed for show (SEE LINK), has the detailed red trunk, proper plaid trunk mat, this large area is beautifully done and the quarters look original, has the full spare and jack, this large trunk looks as new, detailed as factory inside, the interior is really as in a time warp, the dash pad is in show condition, note the red dash, the black piping along the red dash pad is factory correct, usually restorers go with body color and forget this detail, the front fascia is factory correct, the stock instruments work, has the period tachometer mounted on the steering column, the speedometer works, has newer oil pressure and temperature gauges mounted under the dash to insure safe operation of the car, the heater works that takes great effort to restore, has a stock radio, new red carpets, has front Ford floor mats, note the exceptional Ford stainless door sills in show condition, with full restoration and excellent suspension, this is prepared for top driven show for 2008, the radiator fluids have just been checked, the oil and filter are new, the spark plugs new, the air conditioning with 134a works well, really a great driven show car, note that all the chrome and stainless on this car are top quality, $37,950
