Below are notes on the car's history

'65 K convertible 5R08K126745 - owned by the last owner for 2 years. This was built in San Jose, CA and spending the early years on the West Coast. The car was bought by Detroit AutoRama Show promoter sometime in the mid/late 1970s from Barrett-Jackson Auction in their early days, then the car was on display at Harrah's Auto Museum, Reno, NV for two years. There is a photo of the car from page 222 of the book "Harrah's Automobile Collection" (1984). During that period, the car had been given the full GT option treatment with red side GT stripes, disk brakes, fog lamps and GT trumpets. After the Harrah's Auto Collection was sold to Holiday Inn, that owner traded the car to the well-known automotive sculptor and painter, he then later sold to a collector/restorer in Buffalo, NY. The car was then restored again being media blasted and painted, then was stored in a warehouse for many years. Traded again to a NY auto service company owner, who added the fresh interior, new power top and any missing pieces. Then the engine was rebuilt to full K code specs sometime after 2000, the last owner bought the car in 2005 from this NY owner with almost no mileage on the build. As one can see, it has been driven very few miles in the last 20 or so years.

Door data plate 76A M 26 07H 72 8 5
VIN 5R08K126745

The car has a new Marti data and I do have the original data plate. It does have all the K- Code stuff. Since I've owned it, I've
installed a period correct '65 close-ratio HEH-T transmission, Bill Heely restored shifter box and re-chromed the shift handle, replaced the 3rd member with a Ford 3.50:1 9" ring/pinion gear with Aug '64 dated case, new fuel lines, fuel pump, NOS Ford front original grille, new battery, starter, replaced carpet and many MCA correct fasteners and connectors. The car is currently listed in the HiPo Mustang registry as the second earliest HiPo convertible from the San Jose plant.

OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT ON THE CAR

1965 Rally Pac
GT Disk Brakes
AM Radio
Power Top
GT Exhaust Tips/rear valance
5 original Kelsey-Hayes style steel wheels

The right passenger fender was raised and verified that the other VIN # to triple check being original and a "K"' code. This shows and verifies the car was a "genuine" HiPo as it also has the original data plate, NY title document from 1971 and information from the restoration shop (they had no financial interest in the car). The HiPo rear axle bumper plate is original and consistent for a K-Code.

Note that the attached photos over the last 2 years period, some as recent as last month, final detailing for Summer 2008.

Engine block and heads are not original (period correct, though as stated in the numbers), intake, carb and exhaust manifolds seem to be original. Distributor is a Motorcraft service replacement dual-point unit. Engine bay paint has checked very slightly and for Summer 2008, a further detailing is done, the exterior will have a professional buffing to bring out the luster. The tires are 6.95x14 dual-redline bias ply (not fun to drive but are factory correct and proper for show, prefer radial dual-redlines that are now an option, the low pitch horn doesn't blow and for Summer 2008, that is planned to be fixed. The windshield washer pump doesn't work and for show only. Only a small ding on outside windshield stainless trim and vertical scratch on driver's door glass.
