ALUMINIZED DUAL EXHAUST SYSTEM, FULL MECHANICAL CHECK
1968 Mustang Convertible in very nicely restored condition, really striking Sunlit Gold paint with White GT Stripes complemented with the white/parchment interior and the chrome 1968 GT wheels with narrow band white walls, exacting presentation as shown in the Mustang history books, (LINK), this car has been used as the personal promotional car with excellent paint, body work and top mechanicals, Fraser Dante has picked this as their July 4th, 2009 show car and then to drive in the Atlanta area for the locals shows, just showcased April 2010 at Turner Field representing the High Museum's "Allure of the Automobile" fundraiser, (SEE LINK), now with full presentation for Summer 2010 with the EASTER 2010 PRESENTATION, since it has excellent mechanicals to couple to the appearance package, proper new GT chrome slotted wheels with trim rings and GT Red center caps, new radial narrow band whitewall tires with stock look, detailed and fresh 302cid/4V engine, very strong performance, full headers leading to dual aluminized exhaust system, the car has a terrific appearance with the while top and the full parchment bucket seated interior and the contrasting colors, new door panels, new handles both inside and out, full redone 1968 new black padded dash, gauges and bezels are extremely nice, new black carpet, seat belts, has correct hard to get ’68 parchment steering wheel to match interior for its top presentation,
UNDERCHASSIS: very nice underchassis, very good suspension, heavy duty sway bar, note this extremely nice underchassis as this convertible’s nice steel floors have some excellent solid work during the years to maintain a safe, solid, good looking chassis, good floors and rockers, proper convertible brace, now the floors and underchassis are detailed in Red Oxide showing their very solid condition for show conditions (SEE LINK), the dual aluminized exhaust system is done halfway with steel pipe on the rest from the exhaust headers back, has fresh clamps and a nice mellow sound from the dual mufflers, the rear end chunk is detailed with Red Oxide, the tag shows this to be a 3.00:1 rear end gear (SEE LINK), these floors and rear end would present well at a MCA show Original Data Tag (SEE LINK),
ENGINE; this VIN was a ‘C’ code from the factory, since this is a 16D production, this could have been a 302 originally as Ford changed from a 289/2v in mid-year production changeover although the VIN # would be different, this is for sure a rebuilt, fresh but not the original 302cid engine, it looks factory correct with the detailing completed, the block has a D1 ZM-6015-AA casting with a date code of 11-L-0 or 12/11/70, note that the 302 heads are dated 8.C.11, right before the car manufactured on 16D, has now Manley pushrod guide plates, ‘Competition Cams’ roller rocker arms, excellent solid compression of 153 to 162 lbs across in a dry cold reading (SEE LINK), excellent ‘rumble’ with the sound of the camshaft used, an Edelbrock ‘Torker 11’ aluminum intake manifold for performance and gas mileage is installed, the Edelbrock Torker II intake manifolds feature a single-plane, low-rise design that can give you top-end horsepower without affecting the mid-range. What Edelbrock did was increase the plenum volume and alter the short-side radius of the runners, to give the air/fuel charge a straight shot at the intake valves. That straight shot produces a potent power build from 2,500 to 6,500 rpm, it is painted proper Ford blue to match engine, Holley 4V carburetor that is just tuned to work exceptionally well, Cobra air cleaner, fresh, expensive Hi-Po orange element, electronic ignition, power is estimate in the 275 to 300 horsepower range today, the engine and the intake painted are thusly proper Ford Blue for showing, has set of headers leading into the dual exhaust system, these mellow mufflers yield a smooth sound that is the range for most consumers, has a FOMOCO radiator that is just flushed with fresh coolant, new water pump just installed to ensure excellent cooling, new correct radiator cap, runs cool on a 90o day, brand new Motorcraft battery with fresh cables just installed, nicely detailed engine bay, C4 automatic transmission that works as it should with fluids checked,
BODY: these 1967 and 1968 body shapes are very desirable today as they look like the Shelby’s and current Mustang, interest continues to grow for these pretty cars with the uprated suspension from the ’65-’66 years, good white non-power top, new white boot just installed, four fresh brand new shocks just installed, brand new Toyo Spectator touring 215/70/14 radial blackwall tires were installed when found by Fraser Dante, these tires are now shown with the narrow band whitewall outside, then freshly balanced, these whitewalls match the GT side stripes, one could choose a B.F. Goodrich, white letter Radial TA in the 205/70/14 size for a slightly different look if they chose, the wheel and tire combination are very correct, these brand new expensive chrome slotted GT original type for 1968, these tires are mounted on GT wheels with GT red center caps and proper trim rings, again, note that such wheels are just like the Mustang history books, a new Shelby 1” sway bar is just installed, this heavy duty sway bar will yield excellent handling (SEE LINK), then the alignment with specs just completed for excellent driving, paint and body are terrific, has the good drip rails around the trunk, the polished stainless around the rear deck and top area is nice, the windshield trim is also just polished, has a spare tire and wheel that matches set, jack and spare, the ‘in hood’ turn signals work, the chrome bumpers are new, inner fender moldings around all four corners, has the proper lower chrome rocker moldings below the doors that are hard to do, has the GT markings around the car, all the outside door handles look new as well as the rear taillight chrome bezels, fresh door and window handles inside, this has ‘Carlite’ glass in all windows except the windshield, the halogen headlights, brake lights and turn signals are tested, for real year ‘round enjoyment, the heater core and plenum have just been replaced, the heat works and the radiator is flushed with fresh coolant, the final work on this beautiful paint is completed by a top ‘finisher’ to bring out the luster, the new black dash pad looks great, Custom AutoSound radio to be installed in stock location, (SEE LINK), the nice parchment buckets are contrasted by a new black carpet, the engine compartment is detailed for driven show, the full tune just completed, has fresh spark plugs, good spark plug wires, fresh oil and filter, history shows this car came recently from Mississippi, then to North Carolina before the final restoration finished in Atlanta, a final road test just done, the transmission works exceptionally with all upward shifts, the ‘kick down’ when in high gear works as it should, all of this work is to yield a really pretty car with excellent mechanicals ready for shows in Summer 2010 as presented by Fraser Dante, $26,950
