History: according to knowledge of this fine 1965 Mustang convertible, work initially was accomplished by the North Georgia collector, this was a rare, rust free 1965 Mustang convertible with exceptional chassis when the work was started, GT appearance package with lights and rear valence were added, it is completed with gorgeous Rangoon Red paint that is highly detailed, the body work is exceptional, has the proper luggage rack, full 1965 White Pony Interior, this great color is a one year application, new GT side panels, GT ‘wood’ dash, full bezel is new, note this has a VERY SPECIAL SEAT BELT installation, a set of Black FOMOCO belts were located, still with the B5A, JR, 7-65 stampings and the white sewn tag, these belts are redeemed in black to bring up the appearance, (LINK), their installed value today is around $500 along, White Power Soft Top, White boot, has the 1965 styled steel wheels, equipped with show bias ply dual red lines, extremely solid underchassis, fresh suspension rebuilt with new bushings, tie rods and other equipment as shocks, low restoration miles of 1410 with final check for Spring 2010, repro Owner’s Manual and the copy of the Sales Brochure (LINK),hard to find such a solid 1965 Mustang Convertible for Sale that has really excellent floors and quarters, the chrome and bright work including the front and rear bumpers is excellent, hood front molding, the proper Mustang insignias have all been restored nicely, this includes the optional fender moldings and the lower rocker molding adding to the excellent appearance, the header piece on the top return is nice, both side window trim are nice with FOMOCO glass in these windows, history shows it came from North Georgia as this writer met with the person who had the work done initially, restored by most serious collector (SEE PHOTO OF START OF RESTORATION) who did the car in the early 90s as the car was so good it deserved the work to make it fantastic and in the great Red with White, he only did 400 miles to keep in working condition, then passed on to his friend and now with his advancing age it is ready for a new home, Fraser Dante has gone trough the car from cosmetics to mechanicals to make sure this operating condition couples the fine ‘eyes’ of this 1965 Mustang convertible, there are many historical receipts of work completed over the years, the underchassis has a light undercoating as the initial family wanted to protect said chassis it was so solid, (UNDERCHASSIS), it had a very light undercoating, then Fraser Dante did photos showing these exceptional and original condition, the seats were taken out and the exceptional floors from the top with carpet out, one can see documented solid red floors, has the factory proper insulation and their excellent condition (SEE LINK), really hard to find so nice and solid and rust free, has done about 1410 miles since the full restoration according to information received,
Engine and mechanicals; excellent 289cid dated engine, this was rebuilt in the initial restoration, all pistons had rings, bearings, full head rebuild, has very good compression, heads checked with valve covers off showing the ‘289’ heads and how nice they are, readings are 164 to 172 dry cold readings (LINK), that is exceptional, according to receipts in the file that show machine work, this couples the story of the full rebuilt, the radiator is just replaced with fresh coolant for excellent cooling, this ’65 with the 289cid, 2v engine has very nice show detailing, the rebuilt Autolite 2100 2v barrel carburetor works great, exacting work in the engine bay includes correct nylon-wrapped choke tube off right hand exhaust manifold, correct air cleaner heat shroud and heat tube for the heat sensitive choke to operate, the heads are exceptionally clean (SEE LINK), this engine has thusly very little miles, show quality battery cables, the correct gold valve covers and air cleaner are proper for Mustang shows, one could install the MCA approved Cobra full kit with valve cover and air cleaner, rebuilt 2v 2100 carberator now could be replaced with the Edelbrock aluminum intake and Edelbrock #1404 with the intake being painted to look stock, this would increase both the power and fuel economy, really excellent mechanicals just checked with distributor timing and spark plugs, the running is very smooth, the dual exhaust manifolds lead to the dual steel exhaust system exciting the GT rear exhaust valence, this would assume that the power is about 215 horsepower, top braking system just checked with excellent standard ‘C’ code brakes and brake cylinders just checked and work very well, NOTE: if someone desires, these brakes could be updated to the GT front discs by Stainless steel for additional stopping and the 1” Shelby sway bar mounted (SEE LINK), this total installation would be about $2600, (LINK AS INSTALLED)
Appearance: terrific chrome, has the dual chrome outside mirrors, has the optional lower rocker moldings, the fender inner chrome moldings, the door molding protection, the hood leading edge, this is a most desirable car with the color combination is the top one for everyone, men and women of all ages just love this look in the early Mustang, the ‘ 65 and ’66 Mustang convertible are perhaps among the most collectable cars in the USA, William Ford III, the CEO of Ford says in the group of the ads in 2002 that “if I had to own a Ford, a red Mustang convertible would be the one”, this red car has fantastic sides in the body work and really gorgeous paint, initially this car was done in the 90s and kept as a seldom used personal show car, the file contains the brochure of Glasurit, the notes inside show ‘intergrasit with 2 coats tinted clear” (SEE LINK), fresh professional buffing just complete, this is one of the best paints we have seen, 1965 new styled steel wheels, center caps, show 6.95x14 dual red line narrow band show tires, OR one could choose a 195/70/14 radial narrow band whitewall that will drive even better, note that the fully restored trunk has the matching styled steel wheel and spare tire, jack, hold down, trunk mat, all the lights and turn signals are checked, the nice black carpets complement the white inside,
RECAP: VIN #5F08C366115 is clearly visible on the inner fender; this has the very desirable C4 automatic transmission, all fresh, suspension redone with full alignment here is an opportunity to own one of America's favorite classic automobiles, car had not been driven extensively since restoration as it was kept in two collections, fresh servicing also included checking all steering, suspension and brake components, all of the rubber seals are excellent, the chrome surround the windshield is as new, all the felts on the windows are done, this type of car is a perfect driver and show car with trophy from Spring of 2008 (SEE LINK) even before Fraser Dante spent considerable time bringing this up another notch set for Spring 2010, fresh alignment just done, (SEE LINK), all fluids are fresh, coolant, 10-30 oil, oil filter, plug wires, new battery, great color combination very hard to find, completely finished to a high degree of mechanical expertise along with cosmetics with great ‘eyes’, $31,950
