This is a spectacular looking 1967 Mustang Convertible with updates as a Shelby vision with “California Special” markings along with Shelby bodywork to make this appear as a high design presentation, fully restored as an absolutely gorgeous CandyApple Red show car with contrasting White striping, hood tie downs and White power top, paint and body work are outstanding, the engine is a 289cid with custom build and show detailed, should produce today about 325-350 horsepower, aluminum roller rocker heads, highly detailed engine bay, rebuilt 4 speed transmission, 3.70 performance axle, stainless steel GT disc brakes, Shelby front sway bar, period tachometer, full set of gauges, the fantastic body and paint are show quality and fully buffed to high luster, the build includes Shelby side scoops and rear end spoiler, hood is the beautiful Shelby 1967 fiberglass unit with proper air scoop and ties downs, it is finished with white LeMans striping that runs down the hood area with the Shelby rear trunk with spoiler, note that the hood striping coupled with the white GT stripes on the side really stand out coupled with the brand new white top, 10 spoke Shelby wheels, excellent meticulous prepared underchassis, the whole car is extremely show detailed, the sound of the engine and exhaust system brings a smile to all around, this goes along with the ‘look’ like a spectacular Mustang/Shelby California show car is quite a package, restored to resemble the "California Special" along with Shelby rear body work going to the sequential taillights and the side fiberglass side scoops, beautiful CandyApple red convertible to appreciate and enjoy on hot summer nights or the Fall Festivals while winning your local show,
ENGINE: when first built by a Fraser Dante sub for his own show use, the car had a regular, fine 289cid engine, in an effort to make this a real performance ‘Shelby’ convertible, our Connecticut customer wanted the engine to go to a higher level, now this has a completely rebuilt 289cid Hi-PO ‘balanced’ engine just done to outstanding standards, block bored and honed, they report that this block was bored to +.60 over now yielding about 310cid, Clevite rods, Keith Black pistons, molly rings, bearings, timing kit, water pump, ‘special cam and lifter set’, heavy duty harmonic balancer and other such build work, E&G Automotive in Connecticut did the receipted assemble and full build (SEE LINK for receipts), they were supplied a Ford Motorsports set of aluminum heads from the customer that have roller rockers, thusly their bill does not reflect the expensive heads, receipts in file amount to $6770 for the engine work in 2007 to 2008, has a Cobra kit with Shelby air cleaner, new Holley 4v carburetor, chromed Performer intake, new carb positive linkage, Taylor ‘pro-wire’ 8mm wires with custom holders, should produce approximately 350hp with hydraulic lifters (SEE LINK OF ENGINE BUILD), with compression of 190 to 197 lbs psi, (SEE LINK), these roller rocker heads yield outstanding performance while being able to use 93o octane, has stock distributor with Pertronix, uprated MSD ignition with yellow top coil, has a 4-speed transmission that has the stock looking shifter with proper handle,Note to show that this great engine/cooling system works well, this Mustang convertible was just taken out to dinner at The Palm in Atlanta to show off on a 90o night, the cooling system and radiator is exceptional, this ran at 175o in normal driving, then when caught in massive traffic jam for 30 minutes, the temp gauge only moved to 200-205o on such an very extreme day, a full set of Autogage three gauge console is just installed for oil pressure, volt meter and water temperature to monitor operations, (SEE LINK), note that the new Autometer Traditional Chrome street tachometer is steering wheel mounted, this Ford unit now has only 1,000 miles on the build of the block with lots of the final work by Fraser Dante in August 2010, full long tube Hooker ceramic coated headers coupled with aluminized exhaust system, Flowmaster mufflers add a great sound, professionally detailed engine compartment chrome shock tower brace, fan shroud, Monte Carlo bar, Autolite battery with new correct cables, show cut off, professionally detailed engine, the 4-speed transmission works great, correct shifter with proper lock-out and the reverse shift works well, new clutch assembly system, final tune, road check and full mechanical check by Fraser Dante late Summer 2010,
INTERIOR: this looks ‘new’ with fully restored with deluxe black buckets, these are the ’67 units with the better buckets that started that year, full seat padding along with the proper ‘chrome’ inserts, the rear seat is also the same materials and redone, customer special, new front large black console with cup holders and compartment, held down with bolts to remain firm, new black carpet with insulation, four carpeted Shelby floor mats, all new door panels, these are the proper units with the stainless trim, new arm rests, all new interior door and window handles, new outside chrome handles, desirable front and rear black safety belts, Modern, very expensive Pioneer CD with AM/FM radio unit with remote to operate, kick panel speakers very nicely done, correct 1967 black steering wheel, has the raised padded horn center, hard to get this nice, the new period expensive Autometer Classic tachometer mounted on steering column, (SEE LINK), full black dash pad restored, has the ‘Shelby’ emblems on the glove box, power steering, new tinted front windshield, day/night rear view mirror, the trunk has a full spare, jack, trunk mat, a fire extinguisher that is required for most shows and for safety in driving is installed, the trunk is painted, detailed inside, quarters were used in the build and are virtually impossible to detect, all of this effort is to build a solid, rust free convertible, the fuel tank is fresh,
History: work initial done on VIN#7T03C105322 by a top local Mustang restorer in Atlanta, mileage shows 67,155 that is not accurate, this car was virtually built from scratch from a good ‘289’ chassis, all steel was used excepting the new Shelby fiberglass pieces, side scoops and hood, since the rear quarters/fenders were being planned, new steel quarters were used and they are professionally installed, the ‘swoop’ of the rear Shelby spoiler is exceptionally done in the installation, then to Fraser Dante with more work done, then to a collector who added more upgrades as mentioned, then back to Fraser Dante in Summer preparing for Fall 2010 shows, presentation is better than a stock 1968 GT500 convertible was new, a continued work of upgrading and building a striking show car with excellent performance for Fall 2010,
EXTERIOR: restored to resemble the "California Special" with the addition to the Shelby rear taillights, side fiberglass side scoops with the simulated air intakes, chrome quarter panel script, body striping, remote driver’s side mirror, blacked out front grille, Shelby emblem installed for great front end look, has a replaced windshield, GT style fuel cap, painted in fabulous PPG base coat clear coat, yielding a gorgeous CandyApple Red, “California Special” side scoops and rear end, Shelby 1967 fiberglass hood with proper air scoop, white LeMans striping from hood to trunk, has the front ‘hold downs’ installed, Shelby rear trunk with integrated spoiler, made to look like a spectacular Mustang/Shelby California show car, brand new white power top just installed with split glass window, chrome quarter panel with new hood edge trim, “CALIFORNIA SPECIAL” script, body striping, remote driver’s side mirror, blacked out front grille section yielding aggressive ‘modern look’, GT style fuel cap, all new chrome bumpers, full trim pieces, new hood front edge trim, tinted front windshield with redone stainless surround, this is a hard job to accomplish so nicely,
Suspension includes full build of items like tie rod ends, ball joints, sway bar bushings, the front Shelby Heavy Duty 1 1/8” Sway Bar just installed yields excellent handling (SEE LINK), the brakes were initially built with drum brakes all around, these rears have just been serviced, all individual wheel cylinders and shoes are just checked with note that they have about 1500 total miles and really work very well, (SEE LINK), after the test drive, the brand new, expensive front Stainless Steel front disc brake conversion system is installed along with the dual line master cylinder to upgrade stopping (SEE LINK), these brakes are the best known for these Mustangs, they are the top quality and installed by professionals, (SEE LINK TO WORK) road test to make sure they perform and stop well, note the floors and underchassis are very, very solid, clean floors that are painted flat black to show their rust free condition, photos show that extensive work was completed in the build either with original floors or replaced units that look factory stock, (SEE UNDERCHASSIS), the torque boxes are excellent, the rear end ‘chunk’ is detailed in red oxide, the ratio is believed at 3.70:1 from driving and testing on the rack, great performance with the ‘built’, fresh engine that is road tested in hot weather,
Final summary, the aggressive and terrific Shelby ‘look’ with the uprated body parts, strong, reliable engine, white top is complimented with the valuable Shelby 10 Spoke 15x7 wheels, BF Goodrich Radial T/A (205/60/15 fronts and 245/60/15 rears), alignment just completed, the sound is awesome with the ‘turn downs’ on the aggressive muffler exhaust, very expensive project completed to exacting standards, includes Owners Manual (LINK), $42,950
