Very Rare 1938 Plymouth Two Door P6 Sedan in completed stock configuration, truly a Driven Show vehicle that is very ‘period’ with the high ‘30’s design, very few are left in this Driver Concours As Factory Restored Condition, just beautiful Dark Brown with Tan Two-Tone paint, dark fender welting, note the very nice Chrome front and rear bumpers, the full chrome Art Deco grill, chrome fog/running lights, flowing fenders and the 6.00x16 Goodyear very wide white walls and the body colored wheels with chrome center caps produces an Art Deco design that presents very well, also the interior has taken exceptional effort to produce with the factory Mohair seats, it took knowledge and expertise to complete with the correct door panels and complete headliner in the restoration, full stock dash, working gauges, working radio, items like the restored steering wheel, working period AM radio, the engine is the 201cid flathead 6 cylinder that is freshly built and runs effortlessly, this engine is dated correctly, for Summer 2011, Fraser Dante’s expert staff went through the documented engine build to a great extent in order to insure it operates in an extremely smooth driving fashion, ‘Mayflower’ sailing ship radiator ornament with another Mayflower emblem set in an oval shape on the rear deck lid, the updated 8 volt system, working brake lights all items yield solid show motoring, ready for Christmas 2011,
History: The '38 Plymouth was introduced in the fall of 1937 in two series: the cheaper line designated model P5/”Roadking” and the Deluxe P6 line, body styles in the Deluxe P6 series included business and rumble seat coupes, two/four door touring sedans, two/four door fastback sedans, a convertible coupe with rumble seat, the Westchester Suburban station wagon and two seven-passenger sedans, vent wing windows, according to reference books, it is possible that this model shown with the two tone brown paint and white wall tires is really one of only 1222 produced, really an art deco extremely nice design that is seldom found in such a stock and restored condition, the restyled front end that was new for 1938. This would be the last year for the flat one piece windshield on Plymouth, this body is rust free, since it appears the engine was never out of the car, items like the steering wheel that are very hard to find in the hard plastic that is fully restored with horn button make it a certainty that being factory correct for this popular road car of its era has been the goal of the outstanding restoration, it is very possible that this is a low mileage car, today the paint very nice done that took tremendous effort and knowledge for such a project with the flowing lines and completed correctly, now presented is VIN#10591754 show and restored as a top driven show car, even any few minor touch ups in the paint were just finished for Summer 2011, then for Christmas 2011, the final check was accomplished with final engine detailing and check of gauges for showing and presentation,
ENGINE: rebuilt very correct, very smooth 201cid L-head flathead 6 cylinder with 82 horsepower and 145 lbs of torque, with 6.7:1 compression, with a bore of 3.13” and a stroke of 4.38”, current 93o octane gas makes this runs exceptionally well, this AU engine has a date coded block C138, P6*219125* that is checked by Fraser Dante, this a dream to drive, the rare carburetor and hard to find with the rare air cleaner are stock, in the careful examination of the running condition for Summer 2011, initially Fraser Dante had the head off, then the compression was checked when we got into the engine and a bit low, all appeared to be original and possibly untouched, hard to find like this, in order to make sure this rare car worked well, then the rebuild included the pistons being checked, working with Kanter Products, over $800 in just parts alone were found, we have a confirmation on new standard bore pistons, full rings, bearings, valves, keepers and valve guides as needed along with an overhaul gasket set that were found (SEE PHOTOS OF PARTS), Fraser Dante filed the crank upon installation of the bearings, this expert work by a top technician included many hours and photo documentation (LINK), the whole effort was accomplished by an experienced and technical staff, thusly, the engine is rebuilt making this even a better car than we had originally planned with far more costing, this runs very smoothly, the 12 volt system makes the lighting and the starting better than new, fresh battery, full oil and spark plugs, and then set up by a top technician at Fraser Dante with his test drives, all of this work to insure this can be driven as a beautiful show car, it takes expert knowledge to accomplish this mechanical work, all the wiring has been finished and accomplished in great detail, the clutch is a single dry 9.25” disc mated to the 3 speed transmission with floor shifter, shifts great, test drive to check running condition,
EXTERIOR: with the above mentioned chrome bumpers and grill and dual outside mirrors add sparkle to this very nicely painted brown body with dark brown fenders, all steel, top #2 driven show condition, with the contrast colors and fender welting, it took great effort, care and expense to do such a pretty paint job, full detailing including any minor touchups finished for Summer 2011, dual working wipers, added turn signals added to the stock restored steering wheel is to simulate period correct and then added for safety, according to Chrysler design, the radiator shell, body and hood were "skillfully blended into one flowing unit", with the horizontal lines of the hood, belt molding, one piece steel top and running boards blended with the down sweeping curves of the fenders, the trunk and the rear portion of the roof, dual headlamps mounted on either side of radiator shell, flow neatly into the chrome trim on the hood sides, nearly vertical front chrome grille, dual outside chrome mirrors, black rubber running boards, Mayflower sailing ship radiator ornament, with another Mayflower set in an oval shape on the rear deck lid, wide whitewall 6.00x16 Goodyear tires, with matching spare mounted in trunk, chrome “Plymouth” hubcaps on steel, restored body-colored wheels, tires are beautiful Goodyear Deluxe All Weather 6.00 x 16” very wide white walls, this looks great, chrome both front and rear bumpers with bumper guards, four wheel drum hydraulic brakes that have been checked for safety,
INTERIOR: as factory front and rear bench seats in tan Mohair as factory, wood grained dash panel, very stock dash, as mentioned above, it took knowledge and expertise to complete with the correct door panels and complete headliner, full stock dash, items like the restored steering wheel are very hard to find, working period AM radio makes a vehicle that is very collectable and hard to find like this, has the under dash heat that is working, oil pressure, temperature, amp and fuel gauges work, the speedometer works, has a factory heater that is working at present, the dash lamps work, dual sun visors, carpeted rear seat floors, rubber mats on front floors, locking vent wing windows, two ash trays mounted in the rear seat arm rests, a reading lamp located directly behind the rear seat passengers' heads with assist and robe cords, the headliner is in exceptional condition, all door handles and window cranks are nicely done, the outside chrome handles are in top condition,
Running condition: the braking full system is just checked with the shoes being excellent, the wheel cylinders are checked along with a road test, the frame and underchassis are very clean, this area does not photo as nice as it really is in person, no undercoating, painted, very solid and appears low mileage and very maintained, just black colored and solid, good hangers for the single exhaust system, (LINK)
