ENGINE: this stock fresh 289cid engine shows its strong condition with excellent compression of 150 to 158 lbs (SEE LINK), this shows that it is ‘fresh’ along with being very even compression, the famous hydraulic lifter 289cid engine is easy to maintain and has a strong torque and horsepower curve, according to the last owner, this recent check confirms that the statement from the last owner that this is fully rebuilt as a complete unit as the strong compression and check of the heads with the valve covers off confirm said facts, going to solid date codes, note that the heads are stamped 66 ‘289’ and dated 5K28 and 5L12, note that the very clean valley has a stamping of ’66-289’ for authenticity, the heads show how fresh and clean the engine is today, this was originally a 2V carberator ‘C’ Code with 200 horsepower, the original set up comes with the package should one desire, this now has been uprated to the GT 4v carberator and intake with Cobra kit unit installed by Fraser Dante, (SEE LINK), the Edelbrock #1404 4v unit is used with manual choke mounted on the Holley Wieland aluminum intake manifold with all fresh linkage and includes intake and gaskets, (SEE LINK), then this intake installation is painted proper Ford Blue and then detailed to MCA driven show presentation, fresh distributor with full tune, new Ford spark plug wires, just flushed 3-row radiator with fan shroud for excellent cooling, original style hoses & clamps, new hoses and belts are just installed, has the new Motorcraft battery and new battery cables and running test to make sure the belts work well, this Mustang came with the standard steel dual exhaust but is now upgraded and fitted with the very nice and expensive A-code style, custom dual aluminized exhaust system finished with GT style valance and GT exhaust tips, this is a professional 2 ¼” mandrel bent system with a costing of $725 alone, the sound is ‘mellow’ with the upgraded mufflers, it took twice at the muffler builder to make perfect, excellent power of over the 225 factory horsepower,
SUSPENSION: One of the areas that is not normally addressed by most restorers, especially at auctions, here work has the driveshaft, Fraser Dante went to considerable expense to have the driveshaft professionally rebuilt, fully balanced, new “U” joints installed to make sure this is vibration free, and the slip yoke has even been addressed as this part is very difficult to find in these older Mustangs, SEE LINK, the costing on this restored driveshaft process with time and subcontractor is $525, now when the car is driven, there should be no vibration and no breakdown between the rear end and transmission, here is an effort to make sure this Mustang drives in an outstanding manner, four all new shocks, the red oxided chassis is finished with clear, the rear end chunk is prepared in red for proper show presentation, a new sway bar bushings and end link kit were accomplished installed, (SEE LINK)
then to complete the project, tires are currently standard P215/70R14 tires with spinner hubcaps, and since this has the expensive GT Style Stainless Steel front disc brake kit with proper master cylinder, these good tires are important, photos and specs show the work completed and are just installed, (SEE LINK), all new rear drum brakes and lines are all part of the very excellent full braking system (LINK) then the full system is blend with final road test, the ‘attitude’ of the car is excellent, sits evenly, the front end alignment is then just completed (SEE LINK),just professionally buffed to a beautiful luster (LINK),
